Car Insurance Suzuki (Car Insurance). My steering wheel is shaking and hard to turn...?My steering wheel is shaking and hard to turn...? This morning I drove thru a rather large puddle (about a foot deep) and my car seemed fine right afterward and for about 4 miles. Then when I was turning right my steering wheel became really tough to turn and started making a'grinding' noise. Is this a possible after effect of driving through a giant puddle or do I just have horrible luck and now have a serious problem with my car? I drove it about a block after it became hard to turn and it only became more difficult and began softly shaking...please any advise you can give will be much apprieciated...I really cant afford to take it to a mechanic unless its a live or die kinda thing.. if the belt came off then it will be hard to turn. the noise is probably coming from the rack when you turn the wheels. the rack depends on fluid from the pump and the pump can,t work if the belt came off. Sounds like you might have lost your serpentine or power steering belt. If it's a serpentine belt, which I don't know because you didn't tell us the kind of car you have, then you shouldn't drive it, because the serpentine belt controls everything, including your alternator and water pump, on some cars. sounds like you damaged (bent) something up front. have the front end checked by a qualified mechanic as it could be dangerous. Hi, I'm trying to decide between a 2.4L 4-cyl or 3.0L v6 engine on an Equinox 2011. I was originally super-sure that I wanted the 4 cylinder engine because it sounds like it would save me some gas but now I'm not so sure about it. I think I put my current engine under stress sometimes and I don't know if the 4 cylinder could....well, handle me :) I currently own a 2008 Equinox. It's got a 3.4L V6 engine and I love to drive it pretty fast on the highway (maybe 80, not too crazy). Even in the city, I tend to go gas pedal-happy sometimes. Usually, when I accelerate my rpms rarely go past 3000...which I think is pretty good but correct me if I'm wrong. However, like I said, it feels strained sometimes when I accelerate quickly, like when I'm getting on the highway and going from around 40 mph to 65 or 70mph. From what I've read, it sounds like the 4 cylinder might suck more at acceleration but I'm not very car-savvy so I'm not too sure. Anyway, for the most part I drive around town a lot but I also take short trips frequently (usually no more than 115 miles from where I live) using the highway. I usually travel alone or with 1 or 2 passengers, with no heavy cargo. I don't know if it matters but my current transmission is a 5-speed and the 2011 model has a 6-speed. What's your opinion on this? Should I go with the 4 cylinder or the 6 cylinder? car insurance. Auto parts : Push Rod Length Checker Jaguar 1997. Pyrometer Gauge Jeep 1998. RPM Switch Kia 1999. Suzuki . DIY Alternator ChangeIf you have difficulty starting your car, your headlights or dashboard lights weaken or you repeatedly need to jump-start your car, a failing alternator may be your problem. Your car cannot function without an alternator. It charges your car's battery, keeps your battery fully charged and powers the electrical system when your engine is running. Charging systems in new cars are much improved these days, but if your car is an older model, you may need to replace your alternator at some point. Before Removing Your Alternator Before replacing your alternator, have your engine's starting and charging system checked by a certified mechanic to make sure that the alternator is at fault. A defective battery cable or weak battery could mimic a failed alternator. Make sure your key is not in the ignition, all the lights in your car are off, and all your car doors are closed. Disconnect the negative terminal of your car battery first, then the positive terminal. This will prevent any electrical surges from damaging components in your car, and shut down all the computers in your car. When you remove the alternator, your car's electrical system will release any stored energy in the components. Removing the Old Alternator Now you can remove the alternator. Do this by loosening the bots that hold the alternator in place, but don't remove them. Then rotate the alternator to provide some slack on the alternator belt so you can remove it from the alternator pulley. This is a good time to replace the alternator belt if it is worn. The electrical wires attached to the back of the alternator can now be removed. Be sure to mark each wire so you know where to connect it on the new alternator. Remove the bolts holding the alternator in place and remove the alternator. Replacing the New Alternator Put the new alternator in the place of the old one and insert the bolts to hold it in place; don't tighten the bolts. Connect the new alternator belt on the engine pulley first and then on the alternator pulley. Then position the alternator to get the proper tension on the belt without any slack before you tighten the bolts. Replace the electrical wires on the alternator the same way they were connected on the old alternator. When the new alternator is in place, the positive battery cable should be connected first and the negative battery cable connected last. Then start the engine and make sure the ignition warning light goes out and the belt runs smoothly. If it squeals, you'll need to tighten it. Start the engine and make sure that the ignition warning light goes out. If the belt squeals, turn off the engine. It may need to be tightened.
Suzuki . Do it Yourself: How to Change the Alternator on a Ford F-150 300The Ford F-150 pickup truck series uses an alternating generator to produce power for the battery, engine, and accessories. When this unit wears out or is damaged, it will require replacement. Drive belt standards changed in the mid 1990's to a serpentine system, which is easier to work with than the previous single belt systems. The average backyard mechanic can replace the alternator in a Ford truck in about thirty minutes. Wiring Harness The alternator is connected to the wiring harness of the truck with a small ring terminal and nut. Depending on the model, it can also be directly connected to the battery. Disconnect the terminal by turning the nut counterclockwise and removing the ring from the bolt. The battery should also be disconnected in the same manner, to prevent electrical shock during the removal of the alternator. Store these open terminals away from the battery. Belts Early model F-150's used a single belt to drive the alternator (or generator), and later models used a serpentine system. There are advantages to both types. The single belt can be removed by loosening the adjustment bolt, and other mount bolts, on the alternator mount. This will slacken the belt enough to free it from the pulley wheel. Serpentine systems require forcing the tension pulley arm down and sliding the belt from the idle pulley wheel at the top of the engine. Releasing the tension pulley will give the belt enough slack to come from the alternator pulley wheel. The single belt systems will typically use a V-belt design, and the serpentine systems have grooved, flat belts. Replacement The long mount bolts go through the mount arm holes and are held in place with nuts. These nuts can be turned counterclockwise while the bolt head is held with a wrench. Once the nut is off, the bolts slide out. Without these bolts, the alternator can be taken out of the engine. Replace the alternator with a new unit by positioning it into the mount arms and sliding the bolts into place. Lock the nuts down is using a serpentine belt, or leave the nuts slightly loose for the single belt adjustment later. Reverse the previous steps to secure the belt and reconnect the alternator to the wiring harness. Essentially, when you check your master cylinder, you're looking to make sure that you have enough brake fluid. If your vehicle has anti-lock brakes (ABS), consult your owner's manual before checking the master cylinder. Failure to do so may result in under- or overfilling the reservoir. And remember that some anti-lock systems are under extreme pressure. To check the brake fluid in your master cylinder, follow these steps: 1. Open the top of your master cylinder. Suzuki . Take a look at the lid. Attached to the inside surface of a metal master cylinder is a rubber diaphragm with two rubber cups (see Figure 18-3). Caps on plastic reser voirs have them, too. As the brake fluid in your master cylinder recedes (when it's forced into the brake lines), the diaphragm cups are pushed down by air that comes in through vents in the lid. The rubber cups descend and touch the surface of the remaining brake fluid, to prevent evaporation and to keep the dust and dirt out. When the fluid flows back in, the rubber cups are pushed back up.
